Thunderhawk is located near the Wisconsin border off I-94 at Grand Avenue in Gurnee to Green Bay Road.

The layout is an Audubon Certified Sanctuary roaming over a large, natural tract of land with unique and isolated holes. The course journeys along wide fairways through the forest and along marshland and meadows with fingered sand bunkers guarding the fairways and the sides of the greens which are mildly undulating and quick. It's an interesting layout with some quirky, yet entertaining holes designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., and playing to 7,031 yards, 74.2/141, course/slope ratings from the back tees with four shorter tees.
