River Oaks is on the east side of the Feather River surrounded by farmland midway between Yuba City and Sacramento.

The golf course is a compact, parkland layout with multiple lakes, ponds, and wetlands along tree-lined fairways with a liberal use of sand bunkers. From the tips, it plays to 6,467 yards, 70.9/125, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees, designed by Peter Jacobsen.
