Red Hawk is five miles north of Tawas City on the southeast edge of the Huron National Forest.

The course's layout is cut out of the woods over rolling contours, and while most of the fairways are tree lined, there's generous landing zones off the tee as well as approaching the green complexes. The routing provides an interesting set of holes with some playing along the natural ridges, down into the valleys and ravines, and alongside wetlands with mounding and swales surrounding the greens. The course can play to 6,589 yards, par 71, 71.6/138, course/slope ratings from the tip with three sets of shorter tee options, designed by Arthur Hills.
