The Mines is in west Grand Rapids off I-196 at Lake Michigan Drive to the south.

The golf course is so named as it is partially located atop an old gypsum mine that was reclaimed. The layout is a parkland style design journeying along tree lined and rolling fairways. It's very straightforward overall with a modest amount of sand bunkers along the fairways and guarding the greens and an interesting assortment of holes overall. It plays to 6,701 yards, 72.7/137, course/slope ratings from the tips with three shorter tees, designed by Mike DeVries.
