Heron Lakes is just north of downtown Portland along the lowland of the Columbia River with two 18 hole layouts designed by Robert Trent Jones, II.

The Great Blue Course is mostly an open, links style layout along broad, mounded fairways with tall fescue grasses at the margins. There's water hazards in play on 11 holes including two forced carries on par 3s, a generous amount of sand bunkers, and generally modest greens. It is challenging at 6,902 yards, 74.0/139, course/slope ratings from the tips with three shorter tees. The Greenback course is a parkland layout journeying along undulating, tree lined fairways with six ponds and 86 sand bunkers protecting the landing zones and greens. It will play to 6,615 yards from the tips, 72.0/128, course/slope ratings with two shorter tees
