"Smith" is a Town of Fairfield owned and operated course off the Merritt at exit 44 on the north side of Fairfield carved through the forest without homes or development along the holes.

The golf course is a challenging, traditional layout over slightly rolling contours with a mix of narrow and broad, tree lined fairways, a variety of doglegs, and a modest amount of sand traps. The pace of play is managed like the military here, so unlike many of the municipal golf courses in the area, it's generally a 4.5 hour round. From the tips the course is 6,676 yards, par 72, 72.1/126, course/slope ratings and two shorter tees, designed by Hal and Malcolm Purdy in the 1970s with a renovation by Stephen Kay.
