Elmwood is a municipal course northwest of Sioux Falls, off Russell Street, just south of Joe Foss Field on the east side of the Big Sioux River.

There are 27 holes at Elmwood: the 18-hole Championship layout and the North 9. Both are parkland-style layouts, with the fairways defined by trees along flat, river-bottom land with a smattering of sand bunkers, several water hazards, and generous green complexes. The Championship layout, originally designed by Larry Packard, can play to 6,745 yards, 72.1/122 course/slope ratings from the tips with four shorter tees.
