Bellwood Oaks is 30 minutes south of St. Paul on the south side of Hastings, surrounded by fields and forests.

The layout is a parkland-style design over hilly, oak-tree-lined fairways, where keeping the ball in play off the tee provides ample scoring opportunities. There are numerous slight doglegs, several water hazards, and a modest amount of sand bunkers in play. It was designed by Don Secrest in the early 1970s with four sets of tees from 5,199 to 6,800 yards; the white tees play to 6,187 yards, 72.5/127 course and slope ratings, and a par of 73.
