The Chimneys is midway between Athens and Lawrenceville on the south side of Winder off US 29.

The golf course was carved out of a natural, wooded tract of land without homes or development. It traverses sloping pine-tree-lined fairways, water hazards, rock outcroppings, doglegs, 25 contoured sand bunkers, and fescue-bordered corridors. From the back tees, it's 6,384 yards, slope/rating: 71.1/123, with four shorter tees, designed by Phillip Ballard.
