Sand Valley

Sand Valley is 45 miles southwest of Stevens Point on the east side of Petenwell Lake in the sand barrens of central Wisconsin.

The walking-only, Sand Valley course is a classic, heathland layout with a Northwoods charm. The journey begins with a walk to the Volcano, a slight rise in the land form which overlooks part of the course and the rolling hills and valleys of the ragged-edged, sand barrens. The broad fairways tumble over ridges and into a valley framed by the orange-tan, dunes and natural waste areas leading the massive green complexes, most with false fronts. The course gathers interest with long and short par 3s, drivable par 4s, and monster par 5s. There's five sets of tees overall from 4,586 yards to 6,909 yards, the middle tees play to 6,087 yards, 68.9/120, course/slope ratings, designed by Coore and Crenshaw.

Mammoth Dunes, a David McLay Kidd design, traverses a large tract of rolling terrain intersecting massive sand dunes framed by tall, Ponderosa Pines where everything is "mammoth", i.e., fairways, greens, and blow out sand bunkers and offers a bit less strenuous test of golf. There's six sets of tees with the middle, Sand tees at 6,027 yards, 68.0/117, course/slope ratings.

The Lido is a tech enabled and faithful restoration to the original Lido, designed by C.B. Macdonald and Seth Rayner on Long Island, but eliminated when it was appropriated by the Navy during WW II. It features the replica holes of the Channel, Eden, Cape, Punchbowl, Knoll, Short, Biarritz, Redan, Long, and Home. It was built on an expansive tract of land with undulating, fescue line fairways on fast draining, sandy soil with a complete absence of trees. There's multiple sets of tees available, from the middle, green tees it plays to 5,990 yards, 69.5/133, course/slope ratings, designed by Tom Doak, Peter Flory, and Brian Schneider.

A 17-hole Sandbox, “short course” designed by Coore and Crenshaw as well provides an opportunity to sharpen the short game on a tract with holes ranging from 40 to 140 yards. It ambles through sand prairie on the same V-shaped sand ridge that frames Mammoth Dunes and provides some of the most unique green complexes on the property.
