Red Tail is northwest of Boston in Devens off the I-495 at MA 2 to the west on the site of the former U.S. Army Fort Devens.

The course lumbers over rolling, wooded terrain and along numerous streams and ponds with most of the fairways tree lined and bordered by tall grasses at the margins. It's a strategic layout loaded with fairway and greenside sand bunkers along with long waste bunkers at the landing zones and defending the greens. The holes are appropriately named, #11 is named Gravel Pit, a dramatic par 3, and #16, the "Willies" is for the feeling one gets when standing on the tee. From the back tees the course plays to 7,006 yards, 72.7/135, course/slope ratings with four shorter tees, a Brian Silva design.
