Omni Bedford Springs Resort

Bedford Springs Resort Golf Club is an historic course and classic resort hotel just off the Pennsylvania Turnpike on the south side of Bedford. The hotel originally opened as a 24-room inn in 1804 with the mineral springs as the attraction and soon was a destination of the upper crust including seven U.S. presidents from Andrew Jackson to Ronald Reagan. The U.S. Supreme Court even met at the hotel in the middle of the 19th century to discuss the Dred Scott case. It was renovated in 2007 with its conversion to the Omni Hotel system.

The layout an old school, architectural treasure from the late 1800s laid into a scenic, parkland setting in the Cumberland Valley with Shobers Run bisecting the course from north to south and surrounded by the foothills of the Alleghenies. In addition to the water features on many holes from Shobers Run, the course's main defenses are the modest, crowned greens guarded by serpentine, chocolate drop, and doughnut sand bunkers unique to this era. Featured holes are the “Volcano Hole” and “Tiny Tim”— Tillinghast designed par 3s that are recognized by the golf purists and historians. The course is a stern test at 6,785 yards, 73.4/140, course/slope ratings from the tips with three shorter tees. It's a collaboration of three of the masters of golf course architecture: Spencer Oldham(1895), A.W. Tillinghast(1912), and Donald Ross(1923) with recent design renovations by Ron Forse who attempted to restore the course to its original design.
