Northwood Hills is 28 miles southeast of Brainerd on the west side of Millie Lacs Lake off US 169.

The layout meanders over rolling topography along fairways defined by old growth, hardwood trees. It features numerous gentle doglegs and is dotted by ponds and wetlands with sand bunkers generally positioned around the modest, oval greens. There's four sets of tees overall with the tips playing to 6,359 yards, 71.2/125, course/slope ratings, designed by Robert Murphy.
