The Links at Gettysburg is located near the Civil War battlefields in a scenic setting. Rock Creek is on its western border, and a residential development infringes on a few holes.

The layout is a wide open, links-style design over a moderate change in elevation with elevated tee boxes that provide views of the surrounding countryside. The fairways are lined with fescue, red cliffs, rock walls, and red-sand bunkers, starkly contrasting the bentgrass tees, fairways, and greens. The layout has 14 lakes and streams, which often come into play, in addition to a moderate amount of sand bunkers along the fairways and guarding the greens. The course plays to 7,069 yards from the back tees, 74.1/144, course/slope ratings with four shorter tees, designed by Lindsay Ervin.
