La Contenta is within a residential development in Valley Springs about 35 miles east of Lodi near the new Hogan Reservoir in the foothills of the Sierras.

The golf course is an interesting and entertaining layout over hilly and narrow, tree line fairways with multiple water hazards, numerous OB, and 30+ sand bunkers. There's considerable elevation change, like a par 3 which drops 100 feet from the tee to an island green. Additionally, blind shots and a variety of downhill, uphill, or sidehill lies yield constant reckoning the first time out. It was designed in the mid 1970s by Richard Bigler and is 6,425 yards from the back tees, 69.9/129, course/slope ratings with two shorter tee boxes.
