Hilo Municipal is a low-key golf course popular with local players. It features stunning, scenic views of Hilo Bay but lacks the upscale layout and facilities.

The course is a mostly flat, parkland-style layout without sand bunkers, along tall stands of eucalyptus trees, flowering monkeypods, weeping banyan trees, and coconut palm-bordered fairways. From the back tees, it plays to 6,325 yards, par 71, 70.4/121, course/slope ratings, with two shorter tees, designed by Willard Wilkinson in the 1950s.
