Hickory Knob is carved through a pine forest along the north side of the Savannah River between Augusta and Anderson in the Hickory Knob State Park.

The course is a challenging, parkland style layout with a mix of narrow and broad, tree lined fairways including a half-dozen along Lake Thurmond in a completely natural setting. It plays to 6,560 yards from the tips, 71.9/132, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees, designed by Tom Jackson.
