Gateway National is located on the east side of St Louis just north of East St. Louis off I-55/I-70 at exit 4.

The course is a links-style layout streaming through an open meadow with the mounded fairways bordered by tall native grasses, lakes, wetlands, and sand traps leading to the generous greens. Save for a few holes bordering an industrial area, it's a scenic, natural setting with views of downtown St. Louis and the Arch. It's a Keith Foster design and plays to 7,178 yards from the tips, 75.0/138, course/slope ratings with five shorter tees.
