Galen Hall Country Club

Galen Hall is on the west side of Reading south of Wernersville.

The layout makes good use of the land as it was as it traverses rolling terrain along fairways lined by old growth hardwoods with a stream and several ponds impacting play and sand bunkers defending the small, oval greens. The course is a classic design from the early 1900s by two masters of golf course architecture both Scots with the first nine holes by Alex Findlay and the second by A.W. Tillinghast in 1917. Sadly, little remains of the original layout and design features save for a few holes since the complete redesign by William and David Gordon in the 1950s. What remains is the Tillinghast designed first island hole in the US, the par 3 15th known as the "moat" hole which is completely encircled by a stream. The course measures 6,271 yards from the back tees, 69.1/127, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees.
