Cheyenne Shadows is on the south side of Colorado Springs on Fort Carson in a picturesque setting at the base of Cheyenne Mountain.

The layout's fairways are wide and forgiving bordered by a scattering of trees with a deep secondary rough at the borders. There's varying degrees of elevation drops from tee to fairways, numerous slight doglegs, and sand bunkers defending the landing zones and greens. From the tips the course plays to 6,919 yards, 71.6/130, course/slope ratings, 6,600 from the White tees, 70.0/123 and at a 6,000 foot in elevation plays much shorter, designed by Dick Phelps.
