Cedar Crest Golf

Cedar Crest is an historic, municipal golf course located south of downtown Dallas between I-35E and I-45 on Illinois Avenue.

The course is over rolling land along mature, tree lined fairways featuring numerous slight doglegs. There's several water hazards, only 36 bunkers mostly guarding the greens, and the greens small and are somewhat elevated. Par is 71 with 6 par 3s and 5 par 5s, and the course measures 6,532 yards, 71.7/132, course/slope ratings from the tips with three shorter tees. The course was originally designed by the master A. W. Tillinghast whose work included Baltusrol, Winged Foot, and possibly Bethpage. The course was initially a private club which opened in 1919 and the site of the 1927 PGA championship won by Walter Hagen. The City of Dallas purchased Cedar Crest in 1946 and eventually hired D. A. Weibring to renovate the layout to its original design.
