Blue Hills is on the northeast side of downtown Roanoke bordered by distribution centers on the east side in an otherwise natural setting in the shadows of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The layout is a playable, parkland design along scattered, tree lined and rolling fairways with several water hazards, and sand traps predominately guarding the small, raised greens. From the tips it plays to 6,453 yards, par of 71, 70.1/120, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees, designed by Clarence R. King in the 1950s.
