The Lajitas Resort is in the middle of the Big Bend National Park on the Rio Grande in Terlingua-a definite oasis in an otherwise inhospitable region.

The golf course was named after General "Black Jack Pershing who pursued Pancho Villa across the Rio Grande nearby. The fairways are lined with cottonwoods, palm trees, and grapevines ranging from wide open to narrow and contoured. The routing is over level river bottom land through the desert and foothills around water hazards and traps with seven stunning holes that move up into the mountainous terrain and featuring five holes on the Rio Grande. The greens complexes tend to be on the small side and contoured, and are well guarded by bunkers, water hazards, arroyos, ridges, mounding, or desert waste areas. There's four sets of tees, the tips play to 7,413 yards, 74.3/131, course/slope ratings, designed by Lanny Wadkins.
