Avalon is located southwest of Knoxville near the I-40/I-75 interchange and is part of a real estate development.

The course has a mix of wide open and narrow, tree-lined fairways with varying degrees of elevation change throughout. There are numerous sand bunkers along the fairways, and the sloping, elevated greens are defended and multiple water hazards. There are five sets of tees, the middle Gold tees playing to 5,841 yards, 68.1/121, course/slope ratings, designed by Joe Lee.
